Chapter 67. The Worst Is Sometimes Better Than the Best

Anyone can make a list of the best things, but it's the people who have the guts to make a list of the worst things that get attention. Richard Blackwell became a cultural icon during his career after creating the "Worst Dressed List," where he mercilessly panned celebrities for what they were wearing. Today that flag continues to wave in the hands of people such as Perez Hilton and before him People Magazine, Joan Rivers, and the E! cable TV channel. It's really become a business.

Creating bad attention can be good and the opportunity for you is immense. While everyone in your niche is out there creating content about the best things, you could be doing the exact opposite and talking about the worst things. They zig, you zag, and you get more attention.

If you're a plumber, make a list of the stupidest and worst things dumb plumbers do to screw up a job, then send it out to your customers for a laugh and ask them to give it to a friend. If you're a consultant, write an eBook talking about how to not get ripped off from consultants, then give it away free online so you get maximum downloads and reads. If you're a Web designer, feature the top 100 worst designed corporate web sites, and how they could fix them, then take your list and post it on your blog.
