Chapter 53. Image Counts

The perception your potential customer has of you is a critical part of why they choose you. It's common sense. You're not going to let your dentist put his hands in your mouth if his fingers are covered in warts, are you? No, you are not, because image counts. You're not going to buy a hot dog on the street from a cart that is broken down, covered in mud, and smells bad, are you? No you're not, because image counts.

On the Web, sometimes it counts even more, and a good photo of yourself can sometimes mean the difference between you getting the gig or not.

I sell Web consulting to small business owners. You know, lawyers, plumbers, restaurant owners, financial planners, and so on. If you have the same target customer group, here's a little tip that I learned years and years ago.

Small business owners don't give thousands and thousands of dollars to consultants who wear flip-flops, torn shorts, and t-shirts. They just don't. They want to spend their money with people who look a certain way. That's why you'll always see me dressed professionally on any of my web sites or projects that cater to that audience, because image counts. Following are some tips for creating a better image of yourself:
