Chapter 47. How to Distribute Web Videos

Now that you have taken the leap to creating videos, you have to deliver them. The following is a short guide to getting your videos online.

If your videos are open to the public (not private for members or something), then you should use a free service called www.Tubemogul.com. Tubemogul allows you to upload your videos to multiple video sharing web sites all at once. You create a free account, and then set up your account to login to all the video sharing sites (such as YouTube). Then, when you have a video, you upload it once to Tubemogul and they do the rest; distributing the video to all the other web sites all at once, saving you a ton of time and energy.

The mass distribution model using Tubemogul makes sense if your goal is to ensure you get the maximum exposure and attention for your videos. However, you certainly aren't required to go this route. Many businesses choose to upload their videos to just one place, such as YouTube, Vimeo.com, or Blip.tv. Remember, you need to be on YouTube for the organic search inclusion but you can, and should, consider hosting your videos on other web sites or storage facilities.

If you plan to keep your videos private you have several options. Note: You can't put your videos on YouTube and make them private and expect to be able to play them back on your private member area.
