About the Cover Illustration
The figure on the cover of ASP.NET MVC 2 in Action is captioned “L’Habitant de Versailles” which means a resident of the town of Versailles. Today, Versailles is a suburb of Paris with a population of over 90,000, but in the past it was famous both as the capital city of France for a number of years in the 17th and 18th centuries and for the Palace of Versailles around which the city grew.
The illustration is taken from a 19th century edition of Sylvain Maréchal’s four-volume compendium of regional dress customs published in France.
