In this chapter we consider the important concept of representation in examining media texts. We look at:

  • how the media represent to us the world at large
  • the significance and accuracy of such representations
  • the use of stereotyping
  • how minority groups may be affected by media representation.

Indeed, it has been argued that the media are one of the chief means by which we reach an understanding of this world.
