Auto executives in the United States sparked a firestorm of controversy recently when they awarded huge bonuses to top industry managers. U.S. trade representative William Brock argued that any industry healthy enough to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses hardly needs continued protection from foreign competition.
