27. Raul Malo Takes on the Classics

Malo’s You’re Only Lonely takes the listener on a romantic stroll through 12 classic love songs from an eclectic collection of writers, including Willie Nelson, Ron Sexsmith, Don Everly, and many others. Working closely with accomplished producer Peter Asher and expert engineer George Massenburg, Malo’s smooth tenor is the centerpiece and focal point of the album. Malo delivers a distinctly original feel to some well-known songs, while preserving and respecting the emotional intent of the originals. When I spoke to Malo, he had just completed the album before embarking on a short East Coast tour with his band.
