22. John Densmore: Breakin’ on through to New Rhythms

John Densmore has always considered himself a jazz drummer, both before and following his successful career as drummer with The Doors. Now, he has finally surrounded himself with like-minded, seasoned jazz musicians who share his passion for exploring new musical directions—and who are helping him push his own boundaries as a performer.

The last time Densmore sat in the producer’s chair was when The Doors co-produced their blues-oriented masterpiece L.A. Woman in 1971 with longtime engineer Bruce Botnick. On the new self-titled Tribaljazz album, Densmore had the opportunity to work alongside Botnick once again, along with some newer friends from the jazz world.
