Here are six guidelines to help you manage your body language when influencing:

1. Face the other person squarely

Most people focus on your face as their first cue to gauge your attitude, feelings, and emotional state. Show interest by looking directly at the other person. Tilt your head slightly to one side, arch your eyebrows, and nod intermittently to show you understand or agree. The key is to stay relaxed; a tense face is a rigid face. We listen and trust people who express their emotions through an animated face.
