This project was actually born back in the 1970s, when I built a very similar device for the first time. Its purpose is to disconnect a vehicle’s battery when an inadvertent drain would discharge the battery to the point where the vehicle would not start. Before the advent of computerized automobiles, it was common for drivers to park and leave the lights turned on only to come back to find a dead battery. Then, they had to find a way to call a service station (cell phones weren’t available) and get a boost. Worse, if the battery died and the car was left sitting long enough, the battery would become useless and have to be replaced. ...
