Damage Assessment

Elle dialed in the last digit of the door’s entry code provided by Andrew. The Arduino and the variable resistor were dangling by jumper wires, and Elle was careful not to bump the assembly Andrew had instructed them to build.

“Okay, Andrew,” said Elle. “That should do it.” There was no buzzer or click to acknowledge that the code had been properly submitted. Elle crossed her fingers and looked at Cade.

Cade nodded at Elle and smiled. “Nice work.”

“Okay, wave a hand in front of the door,” replied Andrew, his voice muffled slightly by the closed door.

Cade held his hand up and waved it back and forth. The look on his face told Elle that he didn’t believe the small circuit they’d spent the last fifteen minutes assembling ...
