Abstract:
The transport layer is responsible for providing connectivity between end-system applications. At the transport layer, traffic consists of connections between end-system processes. The flow 5-tuple uniquely identifies connections in the network. Network systems that operate at the transport layer need to be able to distinguish traffic by connections or connection aggregates.
