It is surprising that the path to professional status is still so varied.

THE OBJECTIVES OF RATIONAL IT management discussed in this book will require generally higher standards of professional practice. The complex processes, data structures, and systems described here must be understood holistically and within an historical context so that their criticality is appreciated. Otherwise, the temptation to “just deliver it” and pay attention only to short-term objectives will continue to suboptimize the value chain and render ineffective the important supporting processes.
