Besides IP addresses, VMs can also be addressed by using hostnames or fully qualified domain names (FQDN). You can configure a DNS label for this on a public IP address. For Azure services that are all hosted inside the same VNet, Azure internal DNS can be used for name resolving. If you want to use DNS for multiple VNets, you have to set up your own DNS server. For instance, if you add the DNS label packtuniquedns, the FQDN will become packtuniquedns.westeurope.cloudapp.azure.com. This FQDN will then map to the public IP address of the Azure resource.
