Metering/monitoring

The dynamic nature of the cloud and its pay-by-use economic model makes monitoring a crucial architectural component. Monitoring also forms the basis for metering which measures how use resources are used to support the charges levied. Metering also enables the automation of variable service quantities to support large variances in customer requirements.

Metrics used in metering services include the following:

  • Per-unit of time for services
  • Per-unit of data
  • Per-transaction
  • Per-user
  • One-time charges
