Assessing the alternatives

As we have seen, apprenticeships offer the opportunity to obtain full-time employment and work towards recognized qualifications within your chosen occupation. However, there are other education and career routes that you can take, such as enrolling at an FE college, applying to university, studying for vocational qualifications, taking part in work-based learning schemes or obtaining a full-time job that is not part of an apprenticeship scheme. When deciding whether an apprenticeship is the most appropriate programme for you, it is important to consider these alternative routes, which are discussed in this chapter.
