The third V in our 3V Impact system is your vocal image.  Again, this is what people hear.  It’s how you sound.  Here are some areas to be aware of when speaking:

 

1. Questioning inflection.  When people hear something in your voice that sounds like a question—even though you didn’t mean it that way and didn’t actually ask a question—it can make you sound passive. Often, when making a statement, people raise their voice higher at the end.  It actually sounds like a question.  Saying, “Sally, I need this scanned please?” with the word “please” rising at the end like a question makes you sound unsure about whether Sally will do the job.  Instead, say, “Sally, I need this scanned please” without the questioning inflection at the end (your ...
