Object serialization and ADO.NET are the key topics of this chapter. You’ll find a lot of books out there covering ADO.NET from various perspectives. I recommend Microsoft ADO.NET, Core Reference, by David Sceppa (Microsoft Press, 2002).
It’s more difficult to locate a book that provides thorough coverage of object serialization. Chapter 11 in Programming Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, Core Reference, by Francesco Balena (Microsoft Press, 2002), is an excellent and self-contained reference.
