XMLP, SOAP, and the Future

Although the XMLP Working Group is still working toward developing a proper W3C recommendation for XML-based messaging, its work is already having a significant impact on SOAP development.

First and foremost, there's huge participation by a wide variety of industry experts. This has resulted in many excellent discussions about the issues surrounding XML-based protocols.

Secondly, the working group has reinforced the fact that SOAP is a very stable and robust protocol, even with a few minor blemishes. SOAP as it exists today should serve the industry well until the W3C delivers a final recommendation with the appropriate migration paths defined.
