5Problems – Control Strategy Design for Processing Plants

P_5.1 5.1

One common control scheme for conventional distillation columns involves maintaining the reflux flow rate at a setpoint ratio to the column feed. This scheme is to be used on a debutaniser column where the key requirement is to maintain the composition of C5+ compounds in the bottoms.

  1. Set up an entire control scheme for the given column on this basis, including the level controls.
  2. Discuss the likely behaviour of the controlled column in the event of a feed increase.
