18.8. Summary

The J2EE Connector Specification defines the interaction between a resource adapter, its clients, and an application server. If a resource adapter is built according to this Specification, then it should be platform-independent and vendor-neutral. That is, the resource adapter itself should be portable between application servers.

Under this specification, the interface presented by the resource adapter to its clients (the EJBs) may be vendor-specific or follow the provisions of the CCI (common client interface). There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.
