5.2. About the ‘business’
Prestige Bike Hire is a small, but growing, firm that specializes in the rental of luxury and sports motorcycles. Most of the company’s customers are motorcycle enthusiasts, and rent many different motorcycles over an extended period of time, usually for relatively short periods of time (a week or less). To make it easier for these core customers to do business, the firm operates a ‘membership’ scheme. At enrollment, potential customers submit their details—which have to be verified by staff, not by computer—and these are kept on file. From then on, customers can rent motorcycles without further paperwork. Customers are charged against their credit cards when bookings are made.
