1.5. EJB roles

An interesting feature of the EJB Specification is that its requirements are largely divided into different ‘roles.’ When reading the Specification, it is therefore quite clear to whom the various requirements correspond.

Component provider The component provider [EJB2.0 25.1] is a software developer who authors EJBs. These EJBs may be destined for a particular application, or they may be general-purpose or part of a software library. The EJB author may not know the names of the EJBs with which it is to interact although, of course, their method specifications must be known.
