F.4.1. Deployment tool

  • EJB applications are packaged into JAR files, which are in turn packaged into EAR files (an EAR file is also a JAR file; only the name is different). The RI deployment tool manipulates EAR files. It is important to understand that an EAR file does not contain any information about the origin of the class files it contains. That is, if you have modified and recompiled classes, and want to insert them into the EAR file, the EAR file itself does not contain information that makes this possible. To get around this problem, the RI stores additional information about the EAR file in a hidden directory. This information stays with the computer that created the EAR file.
