A.1. Overview

At the time of writing, the first public draft of EJB 2.1 had just been made available. It addresses many of the problems that have been discussed in this book and extends functionality in some fairly radical ways. However, it is important to understand that this is an early draft, and there is no indication when it will be fully ratified, or when products will start to become available that support the new features.

The main developments in EJB 2.1 can be grouped into the following categories: improvements to the EJB QL query language, support for the Web services model, extension of the message-driven EJB API to support arbitrary messaging services and deployment-time message-flow modelling, and timer services.
