Summary

In this chapter we have seen how to use jQuery and jQuery UI to improve the way that the user interacts with the pages in our application. Our focus has been on substantial improvements that improve feedback, responsiveness, or navigation or that build on concepts that users are generally familiar with, such as date pickers. There is room in web applications for enhancements that are purely adornments—often referred to as chrome—but my view is that these should be kept to a reasonable minimum and shouldn't get in the way of enhancements that improve usability.

Although JavaScript has suffered from a poor history and reputation, it is fair to say that libraries such as jQuery and jQuery UI provide huge improvements in consistency and utility. ...
