Management of Traditional Applications

Abstract

This chapter addresses the management of traditional applications—those that were created 10 to 20 years ago. This is the starting point because it is a simpler environment than is found with more modern applications. Key to this discussion is that application management consists of the monitoring and control of applications. The primary management functions as defined by the International Standards Organization are fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security.
