Managing Website Access

Lion Server provides a mechanism to control access to a whole web site or portions of the site that can only be accessed by certain users or groups.

Controlling access can be incredibly useful when dealing with websites that contain sensitive information or sections of a site that should only be accessible to one person or group. For example, you could set up a website so that only those users in a given group can access the site. You could also set up a portion of the site so that only a department has access to those particular pages. In most cases, access limitations are set up after users and groups are created, because the access to certain web directories is based on users and/or groups.
