Clustering architecture

In this topic, we will discuss the various architectures of clustering used by IT industries. These architectures may vary on each implementation, depending on the application and business requirements. There are basically two types of clustering architectures implemented in a real-time IT infrastructure:

  • Vertical clustering
  • Horizontal clustering

By default, Apache Tomcat 7 supports both horizontal and vertical clustering. In the next section, we will discuss the implementation of both types of clustering in Apache Tomcat 7. Before that, let's discuss clustering architectures, where they can be implemented, and their advantages.
