What Makes PHP Unique?

PHP is a popular free scripting language that was developed as a practical HTML template language with easy access to Web form variables and data stores such as relational databases. In 1995 Rasmus Lerdorf released the source code to the first version of the PHP template language, called Personal Home Page / Forms Interpreter (PHP/FI), and a small following of Web developers began to adopt the language. Over time, more programmers contributed to the PHP effort, porting the language and its extensions to Windows, improving database connectivity, and creating the infrastructure for the online PHP manual, and they released the improved version and renamed it PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP—a recursive acronym) ...
