Communicating with an Apache Derby Network Server
The Apache Derby Network Server acts as a communication gateway for Apache Derby databases. It communicates through the Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) protocol to database clients and converts their requests to the native Apache Derby format. Because there are no functional open source application programming interfaces (APIs) that implement the DRDA protocol, Apache Derby relies on the IBM DB2 Universal Database (DB2 UDB) client to provide access through the Call Level Interface (CLI) and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) APIs.
