Removing Noise and Adjusting Levels

Open one of your recorded sound files in Audacity. Using the left mouse button, click and drag in the flat area at the beginning of the sound, as in Figure 8.10. This is the area of quiet that you hopefully left at the beginning of each of your recordings. With this area selected, choose Noise Removal from the Effect menu. The Noise Removal dialog appears, with two steps, each of which are shown in Figure 8.11. Choose Get Noise Profile. This option examines the area of “quiet” that you selected previously. The dialog disappears, returning you to the sound file.
