A Bold New Palette

The cartoon business has always benefited from a diverse palette, both on screen and off.

I've can't help confess my delight at the wonderful Toontown conceit in the Disney motion picture Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The special area of Hollywood where tinseltown cartoon characters were segregated was called “Toontown.”

I've been given a unique perspective as a cartoonist and person of color. I've always enjoyed mocking human behavior in my gags. Adding racial and ethnic prejudice to this potent mix really helps stir things up. Yet humor has always served an important function when it comes to revealing truth.
