The movie Cool Hand Luke has a famous line, spoken by Strother Martin acting as the captain (prison warden) after beating the hero, Luke, in front of a prison chain gang: ‘What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate.’ Often it feels that leadership communication, whether it’s in the home or the boardroom, is a colossal failure to communicate. We want it to be a meeting of the minds but instead we end up with, at best, a lot of talk that goes nowhere and at worst a complete breakdown between intent and what gets said.
Amplification is about leadership, and a huge part of that is the quality of the communication a leader creates in and around their world.
The three golden rules
Whenever you are sharing an idea as an amplifier, whether it’s in a bedroom presentation or a ballroom presentation, you need to keep the three major rules of communication front of mind.
Rule 1: You don’t matter.
Rule 2: They don’t care.
Rule 3: They’re not listening.

The tools in this book explore how you can be an amplifier and turn up the amount of motivational and inspirational leadership in and around you. These become the filters you run your words, conversations and ideas through.
They bear repeating: you don’t matter; they don’t care; and they’re not listening. ...
