Learn from Failure, But Don’t Seek It Out

There is a recent fascination with failure and encouraging people to embrace it. Do a quick search, and in books, articles, and blog posts, you’ll find the “fail fast; fail often” cadre.

Failure is going to happen in your life. No one is successful all the time, but this notion that anyone should be encouraged to fail is a dangerous way to proceed.

Failure is a part of life. You will crash and burn. That great idea you have really isn’t as good as you think, and no one will like it. You will make many mistakes along the way. But people are not judged by their failures, but rather how they pick themselves up after the fact.

Do not embrace or look for failure. Accept that it will happen, and when it does learn from it.

When you do fail, try to do it as quickly as possible.

Knowing if or when to quit is extremely important if you are failing at something. The last thing you ever want to do is have failure stretch out. That taps time, money, and sanity that you could be using toward new and exciting things.

Even with failure a guaranteed part of life, this does not mean that you should ever welcome it. You need to always strive for success and work as hard as possible toward your dreams at all times.
