To Each Their Own. . .

Growing up, my father said this to me quite often.

He was reminding me that I wouldn’t always agree with what people said or did and that although I may not agree with it, if it wasn’t hurting anyone, I shouldn’t waste my energy fighting them on it.

Not everyone around you is going to share the same beliefs or values as you do. The sooner you accept this, the better your life will be. Remembering that can keep you sane when you see people doing, saying, and sharing things that you don’t agree with.

Internet users as a whole could use a lesson in this. There is no reason you have to comment on every post you see and don’t agree with. Sure, if you have something constructive to add to the conversation, then go forth and add your thoughts. But if you have nothing more than a “Do you know how wrong you are?” or “I don’t agree,” is it worth your time?

This isn’t a trick question. The answer is no.

One of the great things about the human race is that we are each entitled to our own opinions and beliefs. This means that we won’t always agree, and many times our own beliefs will differ from those around us.

There is no reason that you have to go head to head with those who think differently than you. In fact, being exposed to a variety of beliefs is a good thing. It makes you a more rounded individual.
