Chapter 23Every Successful Entrepreneur Has More Failures than Successes

“What do you mean you don’t have any flights out of Vegas?!?”

Sam slammed down her head on the ticket counter. She wondered for a split second if she was overdoing it. Nope, better to err on being too dramatic and get a supervisor over who could bump her to the front of the standby list.

“I need to fly out today!”

“Hmmm . . .” The agent pretended to type something into the computer. At least that’s what Sam had always suspected they did—that the screen was really just blank. “Ma’am, I’m sorry. Everything in and out of Chicago is canceled.”

“What do you mean canceled?”

“The weather . . . up to four inches.”

“Four inches of what?”

“Rain, ma’am. Lots of lightning in the area.”

“I can get you to Milwaukee tomorrow evening and then you’d be on standby to Chicago.”

“Tomorrow evening?”

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but even before the delays, we were very full. This is the week of the World Series of Poker.”

More slamming of head on counter. This time in earnest. She didn’t need to be reminded of the World Series. That she went out on the bubble. That she kissed Owen.

“Are you serious?”

“Tomorrow evening, ma’am. Milwaukee is your best bet.”

The agent actually turned the computer around so Sam could look at it. It was full of red type. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize this wasn’t a good thing.

“When’s the earliest flight to Chicago?”

“Tomorrow.”

“Okay. I want that one.”

“It’s at 5:45 A.M., and you’ll be number ...
