Performance Monitoring
Performance problems can be due to the following:
Application problems
Problems with the logical or physical design of the database
Problems with the server configuration options
Problems with the hardware configuration
Although SQL Server offers tools to diagnose and correct problems, you must look at all of these as potential causes of the performance problems that you encounter. The tools available for performance monitoring include the SQL Server Profiler and the System Monitor (Performance Monitor). The following sections cover each of these tools in detail.
