Some Closing Notes

This Short Cut is intended to be an overview of some of the Ajax technologies available. There are as many ways to program an Ajax application as there are web developers. Hopefully, you should now have a good understanding of how Ajax works so that you can make intelligent decisions about how to implement your project.

With this as a reference, you should now be able to start writing your own Web 2.0-style applications. This is in no way comprehensive though. To write full-featured applications, you should command a good working knowledge of PHP and all the libraries and tools available. The Internet is constantly evolving and we—as web developers, software engineers, and designers—need to change with it. Here are a few resources to help you along.

There are literally thousands of web sites on the Internet that provide information about both Ajax and PHP. It is difficult to pick just a few good ones. There are, however, three sites that any Ajax with PHP developer should definitely have in their toolbox. In no particular order, they are:

  • http://www.php.net: This site is essential. The comprehensive online function manual is always available to put documentation at your fingertips.

  • http://www.json.org: This site was referenced repetitively within this text. It is necessity for any project wherein you plan to use JSON for the transfer of data.
