Computer role-playing games (CRPGs) are story-driven games in which the player character (PC) is the protagonist in an interactive story. Most CRPGs contain a complex main storyline and a series of smaller optional independent stories called side-quests. Side-quests serve four principal purposes:

• Create an open-world feeling because they provide the PC with choices about how to independently explore the world, rather than just following a predetermined storyline.
