We are on the brink of a new age of video game AI. The previous generation of AI might excel at the mechanical aspects of play (micromanaging worker allocation or taking head shots, for example), but it still falls short in the areas of strategy and tactics. More importantly, previous-generation AI is not compelling enough to allow for true suspension of disbelief. It feels scripted and artificial. All too often, it doesn’t feel intelligent at all.
