SysML Introduction

The most common model language to use for MBSE is SysML. While SysML is a highly capable language, it is also fairly complex. This chapter provides an overview of the core parts of SysML that provide most of the benefits of SysML for systems engineers.

SysML is derived from the UML language and most of its features are directly reused from the UML. However, the system extends the UML using built-in extension mechanisms (stereotypes, tagged values, model libraries, and profiles) to add new modeling elements, rename some existing elements to a more relevant nomenclature, add new diagrams, and include standard definitions and types common to systems engineering.
