This chapter describes the basics of agile: the Agile Manifesto, with its four core values, and the 12 Agile Principles. I also expand on these basics with three additional Platinum Principles, which my corporation, Platinum Edge, crafted after years of experience supporting organizations transitioning to agile. This foundation provides software development teams with the information needed to evaluate whether the project team is following agile principles, as well as whether their actions and behaviors are consistent with agile values. When you understand these values and principles, you’ll be able to ask, “Is this agile?” and be confident in your answer.
