Chapter 7. Project Portfolio Management

To make sound decisions about projects or about selecting one project over another, managers need reliable metrics to compare the plan with the actual results. The return on investment (ROI) estimate, corporate vision, and technical feasibility will drive the long-term selection process of your portfolio. In addition to having a portfolio strategy, agile projects have a tactical plan for upcoming iterations, and this plan is refined throughout the increments. The actual accomplishments are captured at the end of the iteration, and metrics summarize the overall health of the project in a statistical form.
