Chapter 16. Wrap-up

We started this book with the aim of achieving organizational agility through organization design. We set out to explore how to design an IT organization that optimizes for value over predictability, for responsiveness over cost-efficiency, and for intrinsic over extrinsic motivation. We examined several contributory aspects—structural, cultural, operational, political, and physical. Admittedly, this is beyond the conventional scope of organization design, but we deliberately took an expansive view of the term in order to address all the important ingredients for organizational agility.
