The minimum viable product

It’s only natural, you want it all. You want to get a fully featured product to your customers, it’s what your customers expect, isn’t it? This is the wrong question to ask. The right question is what is the minimum that your most valuable customers need first. Rarely will they need everything. In 2006, the Microsoft Office User experience team published findings that just five commands accounted for 32 percent of all the command usage in Microsoft Word (Paste, Save, Copy, Undo, Bold).

If you focus on the minimum viable product, it means you get the bare minimum into the hands of customers and start learning from their real behaviour.
