The guiding star for you during this phase must be to set reasonable limits in terms of time and scope. We have all known people who have undertaken the responsibility for productivity tool selection and then disappeared for the next decade. Since no one deliberately sets out to make a career of tool selection, we must begin by identifying why this is a trap into which so many people stumble. The trap is very simply due to a phenomenon that we call “chasing the rainbow”; i.e., there is so much software and hardware currently available or under development that it is literally possible to search forever for the perfect tool.
