After Peter’s second consecutive coaching appointment cancellation, John realized something was wrong. Most important, he realized that he needed to explore this relationship at a deeper level and so he reconnected with his supervisor. This time, though, he recognized the need to invest in his own personal reflective process. As a result, he focused his explorations on the emotional and cognitive responses that were surfacing for him in his relationship with Peter. In collaboration with his supervisor, John began to make connections between his biases in his perception of Peter and his situation and the way in which he was presenting and “occurring” for Peter as his coach in the coaching engagement.
