Regulatory Control Strategy

A regulatory control loop is defined herein as a control loop that contains one measurement device, one controller, and one final control element. Flow, level, pressure, and temperature measurements comprise the majority of industrial measurements. PID controllers dominate the industrial controllers, while the majority of final control elements used in industry are control valves.

Proper operation of the control loop infers that each part of the control loop function properly, both individually and in conjunction with the control loop, and that the measurement instrument properly represents the process variable.
