Beware of sophistication! In our opinion, the more sophisticated features a project management software product has, the less likely it is to be used or understood across organizational levels and functions.
A project management software product must provide, in project planning, the ability to:
Learn and use the basics within a couple of hours
Buffer projects holistically (at a project or subproject level, not at a task level)
View resource demands globally (across all projects and portfolios)
Use a common resource pool definition
Use and save templates
